The Animal’s Point of View

Recognising when intervention is needed and when it isn't, keeping the immune system strong, when and with whom is a lack of appetite healthy, your emotions affect your animal, natural healers, etc

Animals Can Be Graphic!

Animals are true to themselves. They don’t have etiquette to make their symptoms appear less to viewers. When they have a problem, they deal with it. If they’ve eaten too much, a cat or a dog may vomit for a while. That deals with the problem, so no need to intervene.

When a horse eats too much, they can’t vomit, so tend to colic and that generally DOES need attention.

Don’t get caught up in the violent reaction an animal has to a minor issue. Learn to tell the difference.

Keeping The Immune System Strong

When you care more about the health of the immune system than the problems that diseases/pathogens/etc can impart, the chances of any ailment drops dramatically. And if it does strike, it will be a mere shadow of how others suffer whose immune systems are less robust.

At the very least, the immune system depends on:

  • the diet that species evolved on
  • the lifestyle that is close to how that species evolved
  • an holistic health care that supports the patient’s efforts

When you feed your animal according to their evolution, you will have very few emergencies.

This also means quality food. Not the dregs that pass as “animal feed”.

For cats and dogs, that means a quality diet of raw meat and bones.

For horses, it means out at grass, grazing 24/7. Stabled horses are more prone to stomach ulcers. This is caused by stress. I don’t doubt that stabled horses are not just stressed, they’re bored, too.

All animals need to eat according to their evolution, need freedom (as much as is safe and possible), need companionship (most important in pack and herd animals) and limited stress. A safe place, away from noise, excess indoor lighting and EMF will always be appreciated.

An additional bonus is being able to get their feet on the bare earth and the direct sun on their fur. Both these natural and free resources are very healing.

The common feline emergency that you’ll avoid is the very distressing urinary blockages that prevent urination. You can lay this problem almost exclusively at the door of the junk known as commercial cat food, in particular the kibble, the dry ‘food’.

Apart from serious accidents, injuries, bites from poisonous animals and ingesting poisons from chemicals, there are very few real emergencies. Even these can be resolved by prompt action as you will see. Most other areas can wait until you are able to speak to your homeopath, in normal working hours.

I was dealing with my dear Jerry, cat, who the Vet recommended to put him to sleep. At that moment, I decided to look for information. Today, my dear Jerry is okay, with a change of diet and holistic medicine, I saved his life.

Interference Is Not Always The Best Option

Many years ago there was a documentary comparing the results of patient recovery in a field hospital. It was a war zone and the surgeons were often under so much pressure, they had to decide which patients needed immediate help and which patients were unlikely to recover.

The patients they deemed too badly injured to help were left on their stretchers, without any medical care while the surgeons worked.

When the surgeons became available, they were startled to discover that the patients were doing well, that most hadn’t died from their injuries.

In fact, these patients recovered better than those who had received medical attention quickly.

It’s worth remembering that the body wants to live. And the body is equipped with the means to recover. One with a strong healthy immune system is able to achieve this better than one with a weak immune system.

Sometimes, it is best to leave well alone. Sometimes our interference is harmful and unwelcome.

How can we tell?

I don’t have a ready answer for that because it depends on so many factors.

However, the judicious use of homeopathic remedies will only ever help, and never harm. This presupposes that the administrator is respectful of the patient and what they are showing. That and being respectful of what the animal clearly wants to do.

When my cat wouldn't eat and was listless I was under the impression that she may have needed emergency care. Because she has CKD I was concerned that the situation was worsening. Turns out she had a stomach ache and was back to normal in 24 hours. I learned not to rush to any conclusions. Let things play out for a bit and see what happens.

Animals Have Powerful Healing Capacities

We all do, we just don’t trust it any more.

I’ve heard of cats being bitten by poisonous snakes, then disappearing for a few days, emerging just fine.

When allowed to, they find a safe place, curl up in a ball and sleep for days.

I’ve also heard of a dog diagnosed with cancer, disappearing before he could be killed by his concerned person. He reappeared a couple of weeks later, very thin, but cured.

Symptoms Are Simply Signs That The Immune System Is Working

Symptoms are not necessarily signs that anything is drastically wrong. Many are simply signs that the immune system is working. This is why it’s important to:

  1. make sure your animal is as healthy as possible regarding diet, lifestyle and health care
  2. be a good observer, standing back and calmly evaluating the situation

Sensitivity and Wisdom

Recognise that animals are far more sensitive than we are.

Vet clinics are especially frightening for the majority of cats and dogs. I believe it isn’t just fear they experience. I believe that they REALLY don’t want the treatment. But who’s listening?

No Interest in Food

No-one wants to eat after a trauma be-it physical or emotional. The body is focusing on healing rather than digestion. This is important to appreciate as digestion takes up an enormous amount of energy, that is needed elsewhere.

Whatever you do, DO NOT FORCE FOOD. It will dramatically affect the process of healing. Contrary to current veterinary ideas, cats and dogs can go days, even weeks, without food and come to no harm. Horses, on the other hand can’t, so grass or hay should always be available at all time.

The Earth and Sun Are Healing

Many cats are now exclusively indoor. You don’t have an option if you live near a busy road or in an apartment. However, there is great healing to be harnessed from sitting in the sun and touching the earth.

To that end, a catio can be built for cats who live on the ground floor. A fenced in balcony can be helpful, when you’re at higher levels.

Your Emotions Affect Your Animal

As already mentioned, but it bears repeating, your emotions, your feelings have a direct connection to your animal. To give you an example, a native American walking past a snake will ’doff their hat’ in respect. They are brethren. So the snake feels nothing but warmth and a friend.

When a white American sees a snake, they become fearful. This is transmitted to the snake, who then looks for the danger. The human may be their obvious target as everything else appears normal.

Imagine yourself in your animal’s position. Wouldn’t you want someone  who was calm, objective and was well equipped with what to do?
