Here we cover the importance of the potency of the remedy and when enough is enough
In homeopathy, the lower potencies are used in mild or medium severe cases, and also de-toxing. 6c or 30c potencies are suitable. Generally these are repeated regularly depending on the condition - from every 15 mins to every day.
Higher potencies are used in severe injuries, shock, collapse, etc. 200c is best indicated here. Generally these are only repeated regularly when the condition is serious, as they may be here.
In severe cases higher potencies may be needed, but these are best prescribed by a professional homeopath. However, there is one remedy that is worth getting in an M potency and that's Aconite. The use of this remedy at that potency is for bad shock. Unresolved shock can lead to severe and often fatal pathology.
You always want to see signs of ease, signs of relaxing that show the remedy has taken effect. And the animal themselves may give you good signs of accepting or rejecting the repeated dose.
Generally, repeated doses are needed when you see the old signs and symptoms returning or when the patient moves from being relaxed to being in distress.
In cats and dogs, curling up and going to sleep is a good sign. In horses, dropping a hind leg and dozing head down is a good sign.
Breathing rate, and if you can measure the pulse rate, coming back to normal are favourable signs.
Cats and dogs may have wide pupils (all animals will but it's a question of whether you can see that in brown eyed animals) and pant when in distress. Their pads may be damp, as they don’t sweat. Horses tend to sweat. A reduction in these show the remedy is having an effect.
