Although this may look, and sound, alarming, it's pretty easy to rectify.
In both cats and dogs, a bone can become lodged between the two sides of the jaw. They will paw at their mouth and become distressed or sad. Salivation is common.
As the jaw widens towards the throat, if you just push the lodged bone back into the mouth, that will dislodge it. The animal can’t bite you. The difficulty you may have is holding them still enough to perform that. Two people may be needed. And a few doses of Rescue Remedy to keep them, and you, calm.
Another condition that can happen is the lodging of a piece of bone onto a tooth and they can’t dislodge it. Give them a little time to see if they can before coming to the rescue.
If they can’t, then again it may be a two person job, but it’s quite easy to just push the bone up or down, depending where it is, from the side of the mouth. You’ll be able to see it if you pull up/down a lip.
