This lesson covers paralysis and convulsions and what you can do

Paralysis

There are many causes of paralysis, often associated with a chronic condition. Other causes can be after vaccination or a drug, after eating something toxic, after a convulsion.

One of the main causes that account for emergencies is injury, especially to nerves, to the spine, So go back to that section.

Animals, especially horses, will often lie down, trying to sleep it off. Along with the appropriate remedy, I recommend allowing them to do this. Just monitor them without disturbing.

Anne contacted me the day after her rather sexually orientated gelding had tried to mount a mare in season. The mare was rather demonstrative in her refusal of his advances and had kicked him quite badly. The gelding lay down and seemed to be paralysed.
She rushed him to the vet who found nothing other than a sore spot on his spine, so prescribed bute. He was still sleepy when they arrived back home and this time, she allowed him to sleep. The following day, he was back to normal, but did avoid the mare.

Bute is a steroid. Steroids destroy the organs, so should be avoided. There are other, safer ways to deal with pain.

Cats may resort to poisonous house plants if there is no grass for them to self medicate. Always allow cats and dogs access to chemically clean grass for medicinal purposes.

Aconite and Rescue remedy are always the first remedies to start with, as you try to work out what happened. If injury is ruled out then Nux vomica can help both the neurological problem and support the liver in the short term.

Convulsions

Convulsions can be part of an acute or a chronic nature. Both can come on suddenly.

Acute convulsions can result from using the veterinary parasite products. The flea preparation in particular are neurotoxins; they target the nervous system of the flea. In doing so, they impact both the receivers nervous system and yours when you touch them.

As I mentioned in the introduction, parasites can be eliminated, or kept to their natural healthy populations, by feeding a good quality raw diet and using holistic medicine, such as homeopathy.

Vaccines can also cause convulsions - minutes, hours, days, weeks, even years after one. Vets are unable to help with this, but good homeopathic treatment can.

Occasionally, invariably in a sickly animal, convulsions can come after a prolonged illness.

This needs skilled ongoing holistic treatment. In the short term, Rescue Remedy will help. And if the onset is sudden, then Aconite may help.
