How I Would Have Treated Daisy

Check to see if your solutions would have covered everything

The conditions that need treatment are

  • shock
  • burns
  • injury
  • maggots

The remedies and potencies I would use are:

  • Aconite M
  • Cantharis 200c
  • Arnica 200c.

Treating Daisy

I would start with Aconite M, then Cantharis 200c about 5 minutes later, leaving the Arnica for the moment.

Then I would alternate them every 5 minutes or so (depending on what she was trying to tell me) for an hour, watching to see what the reaction was. It's always all about what the patient wants as they are the only ones who can feel what's happening.

With this amount of dosage, I would use the remedies in liquid form and drip a couple of drops onto an area of undamaged skin - such as the neck or top of the head.

If you only have the pillules, then make up a little water with a couple of the pillules. Keep the dripping devices (a dropper, a little syringe, a teaspoon) separate for each remedy and keep the water covered when not in use.

Once I could see her relaxing a little, then I would try to tackle the maggot issue as she would allow, without further stressing her.

Maggots aren’t so terrible as they have been used to help heal wounds. They only eat rotting flesh. This was discovered after WW1 when the wounds soldiers had fared better when there were maggots present. However, I would imagine they could cause irritation.

You can’t drown maggots, but it seems they are attracted to beer. So putting a shallow dish of beer near her would do the work for us. I would NOT want to try to remove the maggots physically, as that would hurt her fragile skin.

Next, I want to help her wounds with a topical treatment. I would make up a solution of Hypercal (hypericum tincture and calendula herbal tincture in equal parts) diluted in water 1 part herbal mix, 9 parts water. Then moisten her all over the affected area, quite liberally, including under her, so her bed will be wet. This does not sting.

For these nasty skin conditions, I also like to add echinacea tincture to the herbal mix. Keep the dilution rate at 9:1. If you can't get it, then the Hypercal is fine.

Be careful if you purchase ready made Hypercal as I have been told other things, often chemicals, are added. Read the ingredients carefully.

Do that at least once a day, depending on the ambient temperature. You don’t want her to feel cold.

At some point, she will feel well enough to start washing herself, so at that point stop the topical treatment. You don’t want her ingesting more than is necessary.

Once you can see some form of relaxation occurring, slow down the Aconite M to every half hour, for maybe 2 or 3 more doses. Slow down the Cantharis to every half an hour.

Now bring in the Arnica 200c every 15 minutes for 4 doses.

At this point, the dosage needs to slow down. You’ve started the healing process and it’s now a question of understanding what she needs when. It’s also possible that a higher potency would be needed, when you can see she needs a remedy but the current one aren't having the same effect. Advice should be sought for this.

To Recap

Alternating Aconite M and Cantharis 200c every 5 mins for 1 hr if the patient is OK with this.
Then alternate Aconite M and Cantharis 200c every half an hour for 2 - 3 more doses, depending on how she is responding.
Now stop those and bring in the Arnica 200c very 15 mins for an hour.

Now stop everything and monitor to see how she is responding. She has probably finished with the Aconite, so only needs the Cantharis and Arnica. Maybe every 3 -4 hours, tapering them off as she improves.

AT NO TIME INTERRUPT HER SLEEP.  Sleep is very healing and should be left undisturbed. However, she may only have short naps before she needs another dose of something.

So if she wakes when you drip a remedy on her, stop the dosing and wait until she wakes.

It’s possible that during the healing, another remedy will be needed, so it is always a good idea to work with me or the homeopath of your choice.

Look After Yourself and Be Patient

It goes without saying that your family and friends may not be supportive of your efforts and may make life difficult for you.

I recommend that you stay with what you want to do. Don't doubt the process. Trust it. It is much more effective than anything vets have. Vets do the best they can, but they don't have the tools that we have.

In addition, be patient. This is a nasty injury and it will take time to heal. All you need to do is be aware of the problems Daisy will face and then respond appropriately to them.

KEEP YOUR HEAD! DON"T PANIC!

Rescue Remedy can be a great help for those who become very anxious. And you can't overdose on it. So a couple of drops in a glass of water for you, and take sips as you worry.

Staying calm and focused helps the patient much more than when you're worrying. Animals pick up on our feelings really easily, especially those close to us and we don't want to overload her with more than she already has.
