What is homeopathy? What is different about it to mainstream medicine or any other health system? What can it treat successfully? Do you always have to see a practitioner? Can you use it at home? These are some of the common questions people ask about homeopathy. I’ll try to answer these questions.
Homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars. This means that when a medicine is taken by a healthy person, the symptoms they develop as a result will be the same as those symptoms that this medicine will heal in an unhealthy person.
An example that everyone can understand is the process of cutting up an onion. This creates a sore nose and profuse lachrymation (eye discharge) and nasal discharge. This is copious and watery.
Many people who suffer with hay fever have exactly the same symptoms – profuse and watery eye and nose discharges.
The homeopathic medicine Allium cepa is made from the spanish onion. And it is one of the best and most common medicines to heal acute hay fever, provided the symptoms match.
The next important aspect about homeopathy is that it individualises you. The disease label is of little consequence to a homeopath. Instead, your unique and individual symptoms are the only important aspects of your problem. It is these unique symptoms, collectively known as the symptom picture, which will guide the homeopath to the best medicine for you.
If the medicine is a good match, then it will stimulate your immune system to do the work it has been unable to perform up till now. So, homeopathy facilitates you treating you successfully, rather than the medicine treating you itself. And that’s important to understand, as that is the only way to permanently treat any condition.
Once you raise your immune system, then every problem disappears. It doesn’t matter what it was or what the label was.
Another important aspect of homeopathy is to understand that everyone is susceptible to a particular type of health issues. One person can be plagued by skin problems all their lives. Every time they are stressed about something, their skin erupts.
I remember a man whose skin flared up every time he became anxious. He thought he had something seriously wrong with him, until I explained what was happening. He so fully appreciated this explanation that he decided he could live with the problem, even though I could help him rid himself of it!
Another person may have upper respiratory and lung problems. These usually accompany liver disorders.
And a third person may be plagued by arthritis and other joint problems. These are normally associated with heart related illnesses.
A good homeopath focuses on your individual areas of ill health and your related unique symptom picture. These are then matched to those of an appropriate homeopathic medicine. Then you can expect the symptoms to evaporate almost effortlessly.
This is always accompanied by improved (or balanced) energy and/or motivation.
What is homeopathy? As you may appreciate from my attempts to explain it above, it is a natural, and complete, system of health care which works by gently stimulating your immune system. It is not easy to understand it until you move away from the common materialistic way of thinking, into a more energetic, holistic way.
Homeopathy is not easy to practice, and in the early stages of using it, I strongly recommend you find and stay with a practitioner you feel comfortable with. When you have been achieving good results for some time, then you may feel ready to start doing a little home prescribing yourself.
