Hi Madeline
What solution do you promote in terms of spaying cats? I feel it would be healthiest for female cats to keep their hormones throughout their life but our indoor cat is in heat about 1/3 of the time and she pees on everything when she is. I can’t find anyone who does the melatonin implants and we’ve tried oral melatonin supplementation with no effect at all. What do you suggest?
You are quite right – we are all much healthier when we are in tact. And it does seem ridiculous to neuter indoor cats. After all, some have a very low sexual interest. However, when they are quite sexual, as yours appears to be, and it disrupts the household, then I feel neutering is a realistic option. The problems that are of great concern is when they are done too young. In my book, that’s before a year old. Everyone needs their hormones to grow.
